Water
Conservation of water as a precious natural resource represents the basic coordinates of the strategy of the overall development of Montenegro as an ecological state. Therefore, uncontrolled use and pollution of water in Montenegro is a harmful act affecting people its people, other living beings and nature. Protecting water from pollution is carried out to ensure a smooth and safe use of water, protection of human health, animal and plant world and the environment.
The Programme of monitoring surface and ground water is the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management. Monitoring of water quality for bathing is, after the signing of the Agreement between the Environmental Protection Agency and the PI Morsko Dobro, the joint activity of the two institutions.
Activities in this segment is to collect and merge data on the quality and quantity of surface and ground water, their processing and preparation of reports on the state of the environment and the implementation of environmental policy. The obligations in this area at the national level result from the Water Law and other bylaws arising from the mentioned law.
The aim of monitoring
Monitoring of surface and ground water and water for bathing
Water monitoring is an integral part of a single information system of environmental conditions. It is conducted in order to get reliable and quality information on the quality and quantity of surface and ground water and water for bathing.
Activities and programme of monitoring
• Reporting on the state of surface and ground water,• monitoring and reporting on the state of water quality for bathing,• participation in preparation of the report on the state of the environment,• participation in the development of national lists of indicators,• Cooperation with government bodies, municipalities, legal entities with public authorities, international bodies, institutions in designing and implementing projects and programmes of environmental protection,• participation in the implementation of international treaties and agreements in the areas of environmental protection whose one of parties is Montenegro itself, in the part related to reporting based on commitments.• participation in projects and programs in the field of environmental protection to be conducted on the basis of international treaties, under the authority of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Environment,• ensuring the conditions for access to information about the environment.• Cooperation with the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Network for Information and Observation (EIONET), as well as other duties specified by law.
